Yap Privacy Policy

Updated October 3, 2026

About this policy

VIRAL APP DEV LLC operates Yap. This policy explains how we handle information when you use the app, sign in, choose cloud reactions, save text, or contact us. Yap is an activity for speaking freely. It is not a medical service, therapist, emergency service, or a substitute for professional care.

Your microphone and speech

Yap uses your microphone during a session you deliberately start. Pause and End stop capture. Microphone access is controlled by iOS permissions. Speech transcription and voice playback use on-device components. Yap does not upload raw microphone audio to its backend or AI providers, and does not create a retained audio recording by default.

Transcript text is different from audio. When you allow Reactions, recent transcript text, limited earlier conversational context, recent Yap replies, and listening preferences can be sent through our backend to OpenAI or OpenRouter to generate a response. A provider route may use a model operator available through OpenRouter. This can include personal or sensitive information you choose to say. You can turn Reactions off in Settings. That stops new cloud reaction requests; it does not recall information already processed.

Accounts and operational information

We use Supabase for authentication and account data. Signing in provides an account identifier and an email address, which can be an Apple private relay address. We also store account settings and records of your consent choices. Authentication and hosting services receive connection information such as IP addresses and request times to operate and secure the service.

Yap can store session identifiers, start and end times, session state, listening and speech duration counters, response and interruption counts, and technical information about response latency, model/provider, token use, and costs. These records can be linked to your account and are used to operate, troubleshoot, secure, and manage the cost of Yap. Turning history off does not turn off authentication, consent records, or these operational records. Listening preferences and adjustments are also stored locally and may be synchronized to your account.

Optional saved text and product improvement

Saving transcript history is a separate choice from allowing cloud reactions. History saving is off by default. If you enable it, transcript text and associated session information can be saved to your account, or on the device where the app offers local saving. Turning saving off stops new saves; it does not automatically delete previously saved text. Saved text may contain sensitive information you speak.

Improve Yap is a separate optional setting that permits selected saved content to be reviewed to improve the product. Signing in or enabling reactions does not automatically grant this permission. You can change this choice in Settings. We do not use your speech to build a psychological diagnosis.

How information is shared

We share information with service providers as needed to authenticate accounts, host and store data, deliver sign-in messages, and generate cloud reactions. These include Supabase, Apple for Sign in with Apple, and OpenAI or OpenRouter and the model operator used by that route. Providers process information under their applicable terms and privacy practices. We do not promise that every AI route has zero retention or excludes all provider use; do not enable cloud reactions for information you do not want processed by those services.

We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-app advertising tracking. Yap does not include advertising or request advertising tracking permission. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a business transfer subject to applicable protections.

Retention and deletion

Transient speech and transcript context are used during a session. Optional saved text, account information, preferences, consent records, and operational records may persist beyond the session. We keep information for the purposes described above, including while your account or saved content remains active and when needed for security, legal obligations, or resolving disputes. This version does not promise a fixed automatic expiration period.

You can delete your account from Settings in Yap. This ends the current session, deletes your account and its cloud records, and removes text associated with that account and listening preferences on this device after your confirmation. Older guest text on the device remains available in Saved Yaps and can be deleted separately. For Apple accounts whose revocation tokens are unavailable, Yap also explains how to remove its connection from your Apple Account. Deletion from active systems and expiration from backups or external providers are different processes; deletion does not mean immediate removal from every backup or third-party system. Uninstalling Yap does not itself delete your account or cloud records.

Your choices and rights

You can stop a session, revoke microphone permission in iOS, and change Reactions, history saving, and Improve Yap in Settings. Listening preferences can be reset separately from saved history. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your information, receive a copy, withdraw consent, or complain to a data protection authority. Contact us to exercise these rights. Withdrawing consent affects future processing and does not make prior processing unlawful.

Security, international processing, and children

We use authenticated access and account ownership restrictions for account records. No storage or transmission system is guaranteed to be completely secure. Yap and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where their services operate; local protections can differ from those in your country.

Yap is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us so we can investigate and address it.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when our practices or services change. The date at the top identifies the latest version. Material changes that require a new choice or permission will be presented as required. For privacy questions and requests, contact VIRAL APP DEV LLC through our support form linked below.

When you use the support form, we store your reply email address, message, request time, and a hashed connection identifier used to limit abuse.
